China clashes with Burma

October 2023

Although Burma is in a state of civil war the MNDAA have seized several towns on the Chinese border and started a small incursion into China. Fighting is intensifying here as well as on the India-China border where clashes are still prevalent. This also comes as the Chinese announce plans to build over 1000 nuclear warheads by 2030, a massive increase of production from current rates.

Ukraine zaporizhzhia Offensive

Looks like the Ukrainian offensive is a complete failure resulting in the loss of tens of thousands, lots of western equipment, and NATO trained troops. This was all for a few miles of land around the town of Robotnye, or the area highlighted in yellow. The goal of the offensive was first to take out the heavily defended supply hub at Tokamak and then press forward to the Azov sea; this would divide Russian lines and threaten Crimea.

There are some interesting innovations on modern military doctrine being used and this conflict could foreshadow how future wars are fought. First and foremost use of kamikaze and other drones is very prevalent on both sides. These are mainly used for larger targets like bases or tanks; however, the Russians have begun using these on infantry squads. In addition the use of recon drones has proven essential for artillery's spotting on the Russian side; which is important since the Russian army is artillery focused. Aside from drones it appears that there is a strong shift back to pseudo-trench warfare. Instead of one long line of trenches the Russians instead have several different Trench and bunker "outposts" in strategic locations. This has proven effective both at a defensive structural standpoint and at an improved ability to showcase Russian artillery. One last interesting observation is that the Ukrainians were able to use some of their aircraft sparingly in this offensive which shows that they are either desperate or there are wholes in Russian air defenses.

Brics is expanding

Iran, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Argentina, and Egypt were all nominated as members. The stated goal is to move away from the dollar. This could greatly strengthen the bloc with expanded influence on oil, emerging economies, and a decent amount of total military power. The expansion would challenge the dollar's reserve status, and the petrodollar; while also strengthening the bloc militarily, with Iran having a sizable army.Â
